LPG safety guide
LPG is safe when handled correctly. Please read this once and share it with everyone who uses your kitchen.
If you smell gas — do this immediately
- Turn the regulator knob to the OFF position and close the cylinder valve.
- Open all doors and windows so the gas can escape.
- Do not switch anything on or off — no lights, fans, exhaust, mobile phones or doorbells. A spark is enough.
- Do not light a match, lighter, agarbatti or candle.
- Put out any flame already burning, including a diya or a mosquito coil.
- Move everyone out of the house.

Everyday do's and don'ts
Do
- Keep the cylinder upright, on a flat floor, always at a level below the stove
- Turn the regulator off at night and whenever you leave home
- Keep the kitchen ventilated — LPG is heavier than air and settles near the floor
- Use only an ISI marked suraksha hose and replace it about every five years
- Light the match or lighter first, then open the burner knob
- Clean burners regularly so the flame stays blue
- Get the periodic safety inspection done when it is due
Do not
- Do not keep the cylinder in a closed cabinet or below ground level
- Do not use a hose that is cracked, hardened, joined or longer than 1.5 metres
- Do not attempt to repair the regulator or valve yourself
- Do not transfer gas from one cylinder to another
- Do not use the cylinder as a support or place anything on top of it
- Do not leave cooking unattended or let a dupatta or saree pallu hang near the flame
- Do not accept a cylinder without the safety cap and seal intact
Simple checks you can do yourself
- Soap water test for leaks Apply soap solution around the valve, regulator joint and along the hose. Bubbles mean a leak. Turn the regulator off and call us.
- Check the flame colour A healthy flame is blue and steady. A yellow or orange flickering flame usually means the burner needs cleaning.
- Inspect the hose Look for cracks, cuts, hardening or rat bites, especially near the two ends. Replace at the first sign of damage.
- Check the cylinder on delivery The safety cap and seal must be intact and the weight must be correct. Ask for the weighing scale.
- Know your consumer number Keep it saved on your phone so bookings and complaints are quick.
